Our Strengths
Osprey’s reputation is built upon our ability to consistently deliver on-time, on-budget results for challenging projects. We provide:
- Engineering expertise from inception to commissioning.
- Solutions expertise from signals to high-level applications.

Our Capabilities
Osprey has over 30 years of experience in the accelerator community. We provide support for all aspects of accelerator control: project planning to support critical design; preliminary design; construction & integration; and commissioning. We work with physicists and engineers to develop specifications with consideration of facility goals and available solutions throughout the community.
Osprey has over 30 years of beamline control experience. We provide support for all aspects of beamline control: project planning to support critical design; preliminary design; construction & integration; and commissioning. We work with Scientists and Engineers to develop specifications with consideration of experimental goals and available solutions throughout the community for synchronized motion and data acquisition.
Our team has successfully designed and delivered applications for Fast Orbit Feedback, Fast Machine Protection, online Model development and applications that support accelerator characterization and commissioning.
We have been active in the design and development of EPICS from its inception over 30 years ago. We actively developed the process database, protocol drivers, pvAccess, dbr types and NT types, PVXS, network security, and new record types. We are experts in designing upgrade paths from existing facilities into an EPICS environment including design of gateways or drivers to integrate legacy systems. Our staff continues to provide technical leadership along with key developers throughout the community in EPICS core and the Micro Services that have been developed in EPICS 7.
Osprey provides complete project engineering for subsystems where PLCs are the appropriate solution such as safety, cryogenic, magnet power supply, vacuum, facility, and water cooling and pulsed power. We support requirements development, specifications, hardware selection, cable plant and rack design, PLC applications, installation, test and commissioning.
We have delivered turnkey systems from instrumentation through data viewing and management for DAQ at NASA's Neil Armstrong Test Facility, LCLS I & LCLS II at SLAC and MPEX at ORNL. These systems require design and implementation from the analog and digital front ends through the FPGA and optimized drivers that collect the data to disk and provide configuration and synchronized data viewing through EPICS. We developed a data management system for Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence as well as experimental data at user facilities that use high intensity photon and neutron beams for research in material science, biology and archeology. The DAQ collection and management tool MLDP manages data from collection, to viewing, exporting, and analysis with metadata to support tracking scientific results from raw data through publication.
Osprey has provided service to review, design, manufacture, implement, install and commission high-performance hardware including Timing, Fast Machine Protection, Safety Rated Current Measurements and Fast Orbit Feedback. Osprey has provided service to review, design, manufacture, implement, install and commission high-performance systems including Timing, Fast Machine Protection, and Fast Orbit Feedback.
Osprey has supported the review and design of grounding issues in pulsed power and high magnetic field environment. Our lead engineer, Mike Thuot, has provided valuable advice and design support at many facilities including the Spallation Neutron Source and Material Plasma Experiments, ZAP Fusion Energy and high-performance data acquisition environments.
We have been engaged in the development of the Control System Studio framework, tools, and related middle layer services. We provide training of the installation and use of the Phoebus environment and support the continued improvements required in Phoebus to expand capabilities and integrate new services with general and custom widgets. Please contact us if you want to explore Phoebus and the middle layer services that provide an integrated operator environment.

Our Approach
We believe the most important part of a project occurs before the project begins: the conceptual design phase.
We invest considerable time thinking through the project with you, so together, we make the most efficient and effective use of resources.
Need help designing your next project? Give us a call and we’ll do the thinking with you.

DOE Order 413.3B Program & Project Management
Osprey is adept at designing, managing, and completing projects that meet guidelines set by U.S. Government departments and agencies.
We assist in all aspects of 413.3B management, including acquisition of capital assets, capital programming, internal controls, and value engineering.
